Confidentiality
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed about a client without their written permission.
Exceptions to Confidentiality
There are some exceptions to this rule, as stated below:
I am considered a mandated reporter and am required by law to report any known or suspected abuse of a minor child or a vulnerable adult. In addition, If I believe that a client is suicidal or a danger to self, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation to ensure safety. If the client does not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are allowed by law in order to ensure their safety. If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
